The SecondBite QLD team was delighted to receive an invitation from IFYS Ltd’s Urban Angels Community Kitchen to the launch of their brand-new Kitchen facility in Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The Urban Angels Community Kitchen Program joined SecondBite’s Community Connect™ program in July 2021. The Angels’ Food Rescue team quickly established an outstanding Community Connect™ Partnership with the Coles Coolum team which has seen 2,615 kgs of nutritious food re-directed from landfill and into meals for people in need on the Sunshine Coast. That’s an average of 72.6 kgs per collection and included an amazing 789 kgs of Fresh Produce and 200kgs of Meat! Rescued food from SecondBite and other partner organisations are converted by the Urban Angels team into 15,000 meals per month, which are then distributed among local people experiencing crisis and homelessness.
“The benefit of partnering with SecondBite is receiving food donations which save us money; we can then pass more resources on to people in need.” Emma Helm, Food Rescue Operations Coordinator IFYS.
