Belmont Forum shopping centre reaches milestone in support of SecondBite
Belmont Forum shopping centre, east of Perth, is celebrating 30,000 kg of food donated to SecondBite this month, the timing coinciding with Stop Food Waste Day on April 26.
That’s the equivalent of 60,000 meals donated to support Perth families and individuals doing it tough over the course of the partnership.
Belmond Forum, which has 130 stores, has partnered with SecondBite since August 2019 and is the first retail centre in Australia to partner with a food rescue organisation. During that first year the centre management launched the partnership with a fun celebrity cook off which saw donations of more than 1000 kg of food in the busy pre-Christmas period, enough for more than 2000 nutritious meals.
Centre management, staff and individual stores have contributed to a range of fundraising and awareness initiatives for SecondBite during this time, including food sorting, donations for Christmas present wrapping and other donation drives.
Belmont Forum Centre Manager, Shane McLean said, “Working with SecondBite has been a truly rewarding experience for our shopping centre. We have been able to make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing food insecurity in our community.
“Our team is incredibly proud of the donation of 60,000 meals to SecondBite. It is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our retailers and the generosity of our customers.”
SecondBite WA operations manager Lyndon Nilsson is always happy to work with the Belmont Forum team, knowing how passionate they are about making a difference. “Over the past four years we’ve benefited enormously from the team’s support in so many ways, not just from the huge donations of food, but from the awareness they raise about our work. It’s a great partnership.”
Belmont Forum is located in Cloverdale, WA.
