FareShare Charity Kitchen Opening
The FareShare charity kitchen was officially launched on October 17 at the SecondBite | FareShare Head Office in Abbotsford, Melbourne. We welcomed charity partners, volunteers and supporters to showcase our new capabilities and commitment to fighting food insecurity. SecondBite’s recent merger with FareShare allows us to provide healthy meals, in addition to the healthy produce we have been providing to communities who need it most since 2005.
Our Collaboration means that we turn rescued, donated and home-grown food into tasty, healthy meals, while also working with farmers, retailers and manufacturers to gather surplus, quality produce which we distribute to over 1000 charity partners. By providing this food for free, our charity partners can better support communities experiencing food insecurity.

Now the largest charity kitchen in Australia, FareShare’s facility can produce an impressive 4,000 free meals each day, supporting those facing food insecurity. Since its inception in 2001, FareShare has been dedicated to reducing hunger by transforming rescued, donated, and homegrown food into nutritious meals for vulnerable Australians. The kitchen’s expanded capabilities come at a critical time, as many individuals and families struggle with rising living costs. With a 35% increase in kitchen space, FareShare can produce an additional 500,000 meals every year. This increase is vital in addressing the growing needs of the community.
Community partners like ADRA Victoria are already witnessing the benefits of this new kitchen. Rebecca Auriant, Director of ADRA Victoria, emphasized how FareShare’s support is instrumental in combating hunger. “The opening of this charity kitchen comes at a critical time,” she stated. “Every meal represents not just sustenance, but hope and support for those in need.” Many families are faced with difficult choices, often deciding between paying bills and buying food. The nutritious meals provided by FareShare not only offer nourishment but also restore dignity to those experiencing hardship.
This kitchen was made possible due to the support of the State and Federal Government, and our many dedicated supporters – both financial and in kind. This strong sense of community highlights the importance of collaboration in tackling food insecurity.
Thanks to this support, thousands of FareShare meals will be delivered to those who need them most.
