22km Gold Coast ‘Walk For A Cause’ supports Aussies in need
A group of dedicated Coles store team members from the Gold Coast embarked on an admirable 22km walk at the end of June to raise funds and awareness for SecondBite.
Walk for a Cause is an annual fundraising event led by Coles The Pines Store Manager Frank McDermott with all funds raised going to help those in need through SecondBite.
The group met early on 22 June to walk from Coles Mermaid Waters, stopping at various Coles stores along the way. The team at Coles Palm Beach hosted an in-store sausage sizzle accompanied by a raffle supporting the final donation tally.
Coles The Pines Store Manager Frank said “This event is to highlight and show our support to those in need. With the SecondBite winter appeal we’ve got an opportunity to give back and for me it’s a personal priority to make sure we can get as many people involved as we can.”
SecondBite Queensland Agency Coordinator Rob Rimmer joined the group for their 22km adventure and said the response and support from the local community along the way was extremely rewarding.
Coles Pacific Fair Store Manager Billy said “They have a target of $6,000 and they’ve got some great plans to ensure they reach their goal before the end of the winter appeal.”
With the supermarket winter appeal complete, Coles The Pines raised an extraordinary $12,884 for SecondBite, the equivalent of more than 64,000 meals for Australians in need of food relief.
Customers can still purchase a $2 donation at any Coles liquor store until 12 July to help reach our target of 8 million meals this winter.
