Bulla launches Three Million Meals campaign to help Aussies in need
1 in 5 Australians have reported they are experiencing food insecurity and new research conducted by SecondBite in September 2023 shows that of these people nearly half (48%) admitting to cutting back or skipping at least one meal a week due to economic or financial reasons. In light of this, Bulla is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Three Million Meals’ campaign to raise much needed funds for food rescue organisation SecondBite.
From 27 September to 24 October, for every Bulla product sold at Coles supermarkets, Bulla and Coles will be donating 20 cents to SecondBite. All funds raised will be donated directly to SecondBite, with the aim of providing the equivalent of 3 million meals to Aussies in need.
The new YouGov research commissioned by SecondBite also found that of the Aussies skipping meals, nearly 80% say they’ve been increasingly skipping meals over the past 12 months. When looking at the reasons why they’re skipping meals at least once a week, 90% of respondents note that they’re passing up on meals for they’re children can eat, 83% note they cut back so they can afford other expenses like rent or bills and 69% note that it’s so their pets won’t go hungry.
Bulla CEO Allan Hood is proud to announce that this year’s donation will be inclusive of all Bulla products at Coles, meaning an even bigger impact to SecondBite will be made for 2023.
Mr Hood comments, “As a 113-year-old, family-run business, we are privileged to partner with SecondBite in conjunction with Coles for the Three Million Meals campaign. Our first campaign raised more than $320,000 and this year we are aiming to double the contribution now that the 20c donation per purchase is applicable across the entire Bulla portfolio including cream, ice-cream, cottage cheese and yoghurt.”
“Together our aim is to raise even more money for SecondBite to help support its purpose of rescuing and redistributing good food to those in need across Australia,” says Mr Hood.
To help promote the campaign, Bulla and Coles have enlisted the help of ex-Masterchef contestant and SecondBite and Coles ambassador Courtney Roulston, and celebrity chef Tobie Puttock.
“I have seen firsthand the positive impact that SecondBite has made in communities right across Australia, particularly for Aussies doing it tough. When I was asked to come on board the Three Million Meals campaign and raise awareness on behalf of Coles, of course I said yes,” says Courtney Roulston.
With food insecurity in Australia at an all-time high, Bulla is determined to be able to continue its campaign for a second year with Coles to support SecondBite and further its involvement. Incoming SecondBite CEO Daniel Moorfield will begin his position as CEO as the Three Million Meals campaign begins.
“The start of my new position as CEO of SecondBite could not be more timely. Being able to announce this campaign for the second year running with two incredible partners in Bulla and Coles is fantastic. We will be able to make real, tangible impacts to the lives of the clients that utilise our services with these campaign funds,” comments Mr Moorfield.
The Three Million Meals campaign launches on 27 September 2023 at all Coles supermarkets across Australia. For more information please visit the Bulla website http://www.bulla.com.au/secondbite.
