Turning Cans into Meals: SecondBite Teams Up with CDS Vic West Zone to Feed More Australians

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration with CDS VIC West Zone Operator, TOMRA Cleanaway to help turn eligible drink containers into meals for people in need. This partnership allows us to raise funds through the recycling of drink containers.
Here’s how it works:
Through this exciting initiative, the 10 cent refund from each container donated to SecondBite, will go towards supporting our mission to help those experiencing food insecurity.
It’s simple, and anyone in Victoria can participate!
- Recycle your drink containers: Visit any CDS Vic West Zone refund point to recycle your eligible drink containers.
- Donate the refund: If you are visiting a Reverse Vending Machine, you can select “donate” on the screen. If you are visiting an Over the Counter or Automated Depot refund point, set SecondBite as your payout option in the CDS Vic West app, and ensure your app barcode is scanned by the operator.
- Every container counts: Just 2 containers = 1 meal. The more you recycle, the more meals we can provide to those doing it tough.
- Spread the word! Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to get involved. The more people who participate, the greater the impact.
Why It Matters:
Recycling is a small action, but when we all come together, it can have a big impact. This partnership with the CDS Vic West Zone network operator TOMRA Cleanaway is an opportunity for you to help the environment while also redirecting food from landfill to people in need. Every 10 cents donated goes a long way—helping SecondBite rescue surplus food and redirect it to people facing food insecurity. Whether it’s supporting someone who has had to skip a meal to make ends meet or ensuring that children have access to a nutritious lunch, your recycling efforts are truly making a difference.
Get Involved!
If you’re in the West Zone of Victoria, we highly encourage you to take part in this initiative by recycling your eligible drink containers at a CDS Vic West Zone refund point near you. It’s a win-win: you get to help the environment, and you also provide essential support for people facing food insecurity.
