Stronger Communities: Burringilly’s Impact with SecondBite | FareShare

Burringilly Aboriginal Corporation are one of SecondBite | FareShare’s largest combined partners, receiving thousands of FareShare meals and nearly 130,000 kgs of SecondBite produce. Burringilly started acting as a SecondBite | FareShare food hub for the Bayside, Logan and Southside areas of Queensland in 2018. Burringilly regularly support about 20 local charities and community groups with our food and meals, which are invaluable to these communities.
Further, they are a great partner in assisting people during difficult times, helping our food reach more people during recent weather events and during Covid.
Prior to the recent cyclone, SecondBite Queensland, in collaboration with Foodbank Queensland, stocked up Burringilly with 72 emergency hampers. This meant that when certain areas, such as Logan, were impacted by flooding and loss of power, Burringilly could get SecondBite food and FareShare meals to people quickly. They also supported several local schools that were affected.
During the Covid outbreak, FareShare delivered around 1,500 free, nutritious meals to Burringilly every week to nourish Elders and other community members struggling to access nutritious food. FareShare delivered more than 100,000 cooked meals and SecondBite provided nearly 54,000 kgs of rescued food during the Covid pandemic.
We are proud to partner with such an impactful organisation. Find out more about our First Nations program, which seeks to close the gap.
