SecondBite announces a new Chairman
SecondBite Chairman David Williamson has announced he will be stepping down from the Board of the food rescue agency on July 1st 2020. He will be replaced as Chairman by Julian Martin, a current SecondBite Director.
David has spent nine years as a Director including three years as Chairman. In the three years of his Chairmanship, SecondBite has doubled its collection and distribution of food; strengthened its relationship with major corporate partners such as Coles, 7-Eleven and PFD Food Services; established a synergistic partnership with FareShare; and grown its engagement with the Federal and State Governments, most recently via bushfire and Covid relief programs.
David Williamson said it had been a privilege to work with an inspirational organisation, supported by such a talented and diverse Board and with a management team in recent times led by dynamic CEO, Jim Mullan.
”Over its journey since being founded by Ian and Simone Carson in 2005, SecondBite has continued to show remarkable growth, to deliver on our dual mission of ending waste, and ending hunger. We see the potential for further significant growth, indeed transformation, in Australian food rescue. I am very pleased to be leaving stewardship of SecondBite’s future in Julian’s very capable hands” David said.
Julian Martin will be SecondBite’s first Sydney based Chairman. He joined the SecondBite Board in February 2018 having previously been Chairman of its NSW Advisory Committee. He oversaw the recent rebranding process which culminated in the launch of the new ‘Ending Waste. Ending Hunger.’ positioning theme. Julian has had a 30 year career in advertising holding CEO or Managing Director roles in major advertising agencies in Melbourne, Sydney, London and New York. He now runs his own branding agency in Sydney. Julian has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Owner President Program. His other community roles have included being a Woollahra Councillor and a Board member of the Holdsworth St Community Centre.
“Under David’s chairmanship SecondBite has grown significantly and consolidated its national structure and operations. We thank him for his strong, clear and inclusive leadership. Ending the twin problems of waste and hunger in Australia is the future we see. All our energy, resources and compassion will be focused on getting closer to that most positive outcome” Julian said.
