As part of the celebrations marking the 10-year anniversary of our partnership with Coles, SecondBite was the sole charity partner receiving fundraising donations from the 2021 Coles Christmas appeal. As a result, a record amount of $2.2 million was raised across its supermarket and liquor network.
“Christmas can be a time of joy but also a time of great stress for individuals and families, particularly for those who don’t know when their next meal will be or who have been impacted by COVID-19, whether it be physically, financially, or emotionally.”
Matt Preston, SecondBite Ambassador and Board Member
Coles’ shoppers showed their support for SecondBite by purchasing $2 donation cards at supermarket checkouts and also donated at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars stores throughout December. All the funds raised via Coles customer support and corporate donations will go towards our mission to end waste and end hunger, and support our 1400 community partners who provide food relief in the form of cooked meals, fresh food hampers and community pantries.
“A recent SecondBite survey of our community partners showed the need was stronger than ever as we enter a third year of pandemic-induced uncertainty. Prior to Christmas, eight out of ten community organisations told us they expected demand for food relief to increase due to the impact of COVID-19. These funds help us to address this increased demand because, for every dollar raised by Coles, we can provide the equivalent of five meals to a person or family in need.”
Steve Clifford, SecondBite CEO
Since 2011, SecondBite has provided the equivalent of more than 160 million meals to Australians in need.
