Kew Primary School stacks up support with cereal donation

Melbourne’s Kew Primary School found a unique way to show support to families struggling to put breakfast on the table…with a cereal food drive and dominoes challenge.

The school’s Grade 6 Ambassadors Action Team hosted their first ever Cereal Drop Food Drive in September– with the schools’ families donating an impressive 1700 boxes of cereal to SecondBite.

Before the cereal was picked up by the SecondBite truck, the students used the boxes to create a game of cereal box dominoes throughout the school.

The giant game of dominoes was a great success and moved throughout the school’s senior building – ending in the gym with a giant KPS symbol.

Kew Primary School Principal Pete deWacht said the cereal box food drive and dominoes challenge had helped the children develop skills in how to work together to solve a challenge.

He said the food drive had also brought the school community together and shown students the importance of helping families who are doing it tough.

“We hope the 1700 boxes of cereal donated by our school families to SecondBite help many people who are struggling to put food on the table and might be missing out on breakfast,” Pete said.

The SecondBite team wanted to say a big thank you to the Kew Primary School students, staff and families for their generosity and hard work in organising the Cereal Drop Food Drive.
